BUCCANEERS TAKE 3-2 WIN OVER KEYS

Jake Austin went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI as the Salem Buccaneers edged the Frederick Keys 3-2 in a Carolina League baseball game at Frederick, Md.

The Bucs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when first baseman Jon Farrell smacked a single to score center fielder Daryl Ratliff and left fielder Reed Secrist grounded out to Frederick's pitcher to score catcher Jason Kendall.

Right fielder Jake Austin smashed a home run in the sixth inning to give the Buccaneers (5-5) a 3-0 lead.

Salem pitcher Sean Lawrence held the Keys scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Billy Owens slammed a homer. Frederick scored again in the bottom of the ninth when B.J. Waszgis singled to score Keith Eaddy.

Lawrence (1-0) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six in six innings for Salem. Mike Pisciotta got his fourth save.

Jim Walker (0-2) took the loss for Frederick (5-5).

The Bucs will be back at Salem's Municipal Field at 7 p.m. tonight against Wilmington.
