If those requirements pique your interest, then Fincastle and Troutville have jobs for you.
On May 3 each of the Botetourt County towns will have more openings on town council than they have candidates.
In Fincastle, where William Painter Simmons is running for his first term as mayor, six council seats are available but only five candidates are on the ballot. They include newcomers R.D. Henderson and Theresa C. "Terry" Tucker and incumbents Malanie P. Jones, Helen M. Morris and John R. Shaw.
The voters will have to fill the sixth position by voting for a write-in candidate.
"It's kind of commonplace," said a spokesperson at the town's office. "We haven't had two people running against each other in quite a while ."
The game of "Name That Candidate" continues in Troutville, which also has five announced candidates for six slots.
However, the ship of state in Troutville will have an experienced hand on the rudder. Mayor Jewell H. Tyndall is running again for office and is unopposed
Five incumbent candidates for council are available to work with Tyndall in new two-year terms. They are Doris C. Camper, Donald W. Moore, Adrian R. Poulin, William V. Rader and Pamela P. Woods.
Like Fincastle, the sixth seat in Troutville will be filled by a write-in candidate.
Some of Buchanan's office seekers are playing "Political Musical Chairs." Vice mayor Rex Steven Kelly is running for mayor, taking over for F. Wayne Graves Sr., who's running for council.
The rest of the council race is less complicated. With Graves in the race, Buchanan has enough council candidates. They are newcomers C.D. Barger and Della T. Hylton and incumbents Harry L. Hood, Thomas N. Middlecamp and Dorothy M. Smith.
