COMPTON, Phyllis Gregory, 60, of Fairlawn, Va. died Wednesday, April 20,1994 in Radford Community Hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Compton was a former resident of Pearisburg. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on January 27, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Aubrey Barnes Gregory and Moody Sapphire Gillan Gregory. She was the widow of Henry Stafford Compton. He was a long time grocery merchant in Buena Vista, a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren and a life member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad. LAWSON, Zack C., 84, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 1994, at his home, following a long illness. Born November 8, 1909 at Bluefield, W.Va., he was a son of the late James Zackariah and Minnie Sue Croy Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a lifelong resident of Mullins, W.Va., a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mullins, and a retired employee of the N&W Railway. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Bostic Lawson. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and El Mast, Newark, Del., Rita and Don Watson, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, William D. MABE, George Robert, 90, of Ivanhoe, Va. died Wednesday, April 20, 1994 in the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late John and Leticia Nelson Mabe. He was a member of the Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and the IVA Lodge #173 Independent Order of Oddfellows. He was a retired supervisor with National Carbide. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Mabe. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and John Shepherd of Fries, Va., and Elizabeth and R. J. Jones of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. ""Bubbie"" and Mildred Mabe of Ivanhoe; two grandchildren, Rebecca Shepherd and Johnny Shepherd. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Earl Hanks and the Rev. Alec Gravely officiating. RUDOLPH, Robert Luther, 71, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 20, 1994, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. Mr. Rudolph served in the U.S. Army as a TEC 5 with the 759th Field Artillery Battery in the European Theater during World War II. He was active, life long, in amateur radio and was a member of the Roanoke Valley Amateur Radio Club and also a member of Mars Military Radio Network. He was a member of the Roanoke Valley Woodturners Association, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in 1984 as the Manager of Communications Engineering. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Virginia Talley Rudolph, on March 31, 1992. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard C. and Tereana Rudolph, Salem; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan R. and Price R. Bowles, Salem; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Emily Rudolph, Jason and Sarah Bowles; his sisters, Betty Cornwell, Upper Marlboro, Md., Jean Talley, Galax. SPENCER, Robert C., (``Bob''), 43, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 21, 1994 after a long battle with AIDS. Born July 19, 1950, he was founder and co-owner of Salon One of Virginia, Inc. He opened Salon One November 10, 1981. Originally from Virginia Beach, Va., Mr. Spencer came to Roanoke in October 1972 after serving three years in the U.S. Army. Mr. Spencer is survived by his mother, Mary S. Spencer, Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Carla Bickers, and two nieces, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; an aunt, Shirley and husband, Ike Harris, Roanoke; his faithful and loving Cocker Spaniel, ``Spenser'', and two very special friends, Lois C. Shupe, Roanoke, and Bill Hollingsworth, Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Bradley Free Clinic, the Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge, or a favorite charity.
