SALEM FALLS TO GLENVAR IN SOFTBALL

Glenvar scored the winning run on a throwing error in the top of the seventh inning to break up a pitchers' duel and beat Salem 2-1 on Thursday.

Kim Martin (2-2) scattered eight hits in seven innings to pick up the victory for Glenvar (6-5-1). Pam Glosser (2-1) took the loss for Salem (7-2) despite giving up only one earned run on seven hits.

Lesley Dodson's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted North Cross (5-3 overall, 3-0 conference) to a 14-13 victory over Timberlake Christian (2-3, 2-1) in a Virginia Independent Conference game. Lisa Baetz went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run for the Raiders.

Shannon Carroll was 4-for-5 with home run and five RBI to lead Lynchburg Christian Academy to a 26-3 rout of Roanoke Catholic (0-7).

\ BOYS' SOCCER: Martinsville's Greg Barth scored 35 minutes into the second half to knot the score, and the Bulldogs (6-2-1) and visiting Cave Spring (1-3-2) followed with two scoreless overtimes in a that ended 3-3.

Jon Seale's goal with 22 minutes remaining in regulation time gave Franklin County (4-2-3, 1-0-2) a 1-1 Ronaoke Valley District tie with host Patrick Henry (3-2-2, 2-0-1).

At Northside, Ryan Wickstrom had two goals and two assists and Ben Caldwell had a pair of goals as the Vikings (3-3, 3-1) beat Lord Botetourt 5-3 in a Blue Ridge District game. Paul Smith scored two goals for the Cavaliers.
