PATRIOTS RELEASE SECULES, 3 MORE VETERANS

The New England Patriots, seeking to free money to sign other players, released backup quarterback Scott Secules, starting right guard Rich Baldinger, tight end Mark Cook and cornerback Reyna Thompson.

The Patriots also announced they had re-signed tackle Brandon Moore but withheld terms of the agreement.

Secules, a former Virginia Cavalier, was signed as a free agent from Miami before the 1993 season as insurance in case Drew Bledsoe, the top pick in the 1993 draft, wasn't ready to start. Secules started four games after Bledsoe was injured. He completed 75 of 134 passes for 918 yards, two touchdowns and nine interceptions last season.
