JAZZ JAM IS COMING TO HENRY STREET

In what organizers hope will be an ongoing musical series, the Henry Street Music Center and Jazz Institute will host its first jazz jam on May 22, featuring some of the region's best-known jazz performers.

The 1994 Spring Jazz Fest comes nearly two years after the center was opened at the site of the former Dumas Hotel on First Street Northwest, a block away from the Hotel Roanoke. Since its opening, the center, which is operated by Total Action Against Poverty, has hosted few music events.

Tickets for the jazz jam are $5 and will go on sale Monday at Books Strings & Things on the Roanoke City Market. Proceeds will benefit the center.
