OHIO STATE JOB INTERESTS COPELAND

Jim Copeland, Virginia's athletic director, has met with Ohio State officials to discuss the opening created when Buckeyes athletic director Jim Jones resigned.

Others mentioned in connection with the position are Oregon State athletic director Dutch Baughman and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, an assistant athletic director at Ohio State. Baughman previously was athletic director at Virginia Tech.

Copeland, 48, is a former Virginia football player who has been athletic director at his alma mater since September 1987.

"I was contacted by the search committee for the Ohio State athletic director's position and was asked to meet with the committee," Copeland said in a statement distributed by the UVa sports information office.

"I visited with the committee in Columbus [Ohio] last week. I feel it is inappropriate for me to comment further at this time."
