Roanoke resident and tennis player K.J. Hippensteel is attending a USTA Player Development Training Camp in Key Biscayne, Fla. Hippensteel, 13, was invited by the USTA's player development staff to participate in the training session that runs April 20-24. Hippensteel may have caught the attention of members of the USTA's national coaching staff when he reached the semifinals of the 14-and-under bracket of the prestigious Easter Bowl tournament in Miami this month.
Roanoke resident and soccer player Carrie Moore is one of eight Virginia players to be selected for an expense-paid trip to Norway in May with the American Youth Soccer Organization. Moore attends Patrick Henry High school and plays for Roanoke Star.
