MINISTER INDICTED ON GUN CHARGE

The Rev. Thyrone L. Perdue, minister of churches in Pennington Gap and Big Stone Gap, was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on seven counts of illegally possessing firearms after having been convicted of a felony.

Federal authorities said the latest charges involved a gunrunning and drug distribution network with reported connections to New York City, Pakistan and South America.

Perdue, 48, of Bristol, was convicted of the statutory rape of a 14-year-old Bristol girl in 1989. He was released from prison in 1992.
