TECH'S FARRELL IN LEAD AT PALMETTO

In Charleston, S.C., Virginia Tech sophomore Sean Farrell shot rounds of 69 and 70 to take a one-stroke lead in the 27th Palmetto Intercollegiate Classic.

The Hokies were fourth on the 6,928-yard, par-72 Charleston National Golf Club course with a 593 total for two rounds. Columbus (Ga.) College led the field with a 586 in windy conditions. Augusta College and second-ranked Wake Forest were tied for second at 589.

Farrell held a one-stroke lead over Metro Conference rival Paul Carpenter of North Carolina-Charlotte. The final round is today.
