VMI won the final event of the Southern Conference men's track and field championships Saturday to earn a tie with Appalachian State for the team title in Lexington.

The Keydets won the 1,600-meter relay in 3 minutes, 16.43 seconds, and Marshall overtook Appalachian State for second place on the final leg of the relay to create the first tie in conference history.

VMI had two individual winners: Frank Boehling in the shot put (55 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and Holm Ankoma-Sey in the 400 (48.31).
