South Florida banged out 14 hits and took advantage of five Virginia Tech errors to beat the Hokies 10-2 in a Metro Conference game in Tampa, Fla.
South Florida (34-11 overall, 9-2 Metro) fell behind 2-1 in the top of the third inning when third baseman Bo Durkac drove in a pair of runs for Tech (22-19, 6-7) with a double. The lead didn't last long, as the Bulls scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Jim Hamilton pitched a two-hitter and had 16 strikeouts as Ferrum beat Chowan 4-0 in a non-conference game in Ferrum.
Hamilton (9-1) tied a school record for victories in a season.
Chad Maddox was 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the offense for Ferrum (25-5). Chowan is 21-11.
VMI scored all of its runs in the second and third innings, giving the Keydets an 8-6 victory over The Citadel and a split of their Southern Conference doubleheader in Lexington.
