49ERS TAKE DRAKEFORD

The San Francisco 49ers drafted the Hokies senior in the second round Sunday night. Drakeford was the 62nd pick overall. He is the highest Tech draft pick since offensive lineman Eugene Chung was taken 13th overall in 1992.

Drakeford was watching the draft on ESPN2 at his home in Camden, S.C. He said he heard his name called on TV about 10 minutes before midnight. Then the 49ers called.

"I was pleased that the 49ers took me," Drakeford said. "Having confidence in my ability, I think I can come in and start."
