LOCKHEED: SMOKERS NEED NOT APPLY FOR JOB

Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Co. is joining a small group of companies that refuse to hire smokers.

"Smokers cost more on a long-term basis," said Doug Oliver, a spokesman for the subsidiary of Lockheed Corp. "This will help cut our health care costs." He cited a study that found 77 percent of Lockheed's employees who are cardiac patients were smokers.
