\ BOYS' SOCCER: Andrew Bailey, Lee Updike and Brady Warr each scored as Salem (5-3) defeated visiting Northside 3-0 in a boys' soccer match.
\ BASEBALL: Dwight Orange was 2-for-5 with two RBI as Staunton River (5-5, 5-5) edged Amherst County 9-8 in a Seminole District game in Moneta. The Golden Eagles scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
In Tazewell, Eric Motley was 2-for-3 and pitched the Bulldogs (8-0) to a 12-2 non-district win over Giles (5-5).
In Bedford, Appomattox (5-5, 5-5) scored five unearned runs in the third inning on two Liberty errors and allowed the Minutemen (2-8, 2-8) only two hits en route to a 10-3 Seminole District win.
\ SOFTBALL: In Buchanan, Angie Sink was 2-for-3 with four RBI, and Tiffany Cox was 2-for-2 as James River (10-1, 4-0) drilled Bath County 17-0 in a Pioneer District game.
At Appomattox, Tandy Gordon had three hits and two home runs as Liberty (6-4, 6-4) beat Appomattox (5-5, 5-5) in a Seminole District game 8-5.
\ TRACK: David Early won the long jump, the 100 meters and the 200 meters, and Marty Early set a school record in the triple jump (46 feet) as Rockbridge County won a quad track and field meet in Lexington.
Derek Radford also set a school record in the high jump for the Wildcats, who beat runner-up Floyd County 91.5-54.3.
