DUERK OCCUPATION: `MOM'

Barbara Norris Duerk, 47, graduated from Roanoke's Patrick Henry High School in 1964. In 1968, she graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in therapeutic recreation.

She lists her occupation as ``Mom.'' She and her husband, Gary, have two daughters in college.

Duerk has been involved in many Roanoke Valley community groups. She has been chairwoman of the Roanoke Neighborhood Partnership and president of the Roanoke Valley YWCA and Neighbors in South Roanoke. She's been a Girl Scout leader and a director of the Roanoke area League of Women Voters. She is a member of the Roanoke Planning Commission and sits on two state transportations advisory committees.

Duerk is running on the Republican ticket, but she does not emphasize her party affiliation.
