ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

New car dealers in the Roanoke Valley evidently enjoyed a boom in March. The Virginia Association of Automobile Dealers reported that 1,046 new cars were registered in the Roanoke Valley last month.

That represents an increase of 115.2 percent over the 486 new cars recorded in February. And it was a jump of 67.6 percent over the 624 in March a year ago.

March was the best month for area dealers since 1,136 new cars were registered in October 1986.

For the first quarter of this year, 2,019 new cars were registered in the Roanoke Valley compared to 1,390 for the same period in 1993.
