CANNON SHOTS STOP BUCCANEERS ON ROAD

First baseman Eddie Pearson drove in four runs Wednesday night, leading Prince William to a 5-3 Carolina League baseball victory over the Salem Buccaneers.

Pearson drove in two runs in the first inning to get the Cannons started.

Salem scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the score, but Pearson's second two-run single in the bottom of the fifth put Prince William ahead to stay.

The Buccaneers scored their runs on a sacrifice fly by Jason Kendall and a run-scoring triple by Jon Farrell.

Salem added a third run in the ninth inning when Jeff Conger scored on a wild pitch.

Jason Pierson (2-2) was the winning pitcher, scattering eight hits and striking out five in 8 innings. Mark Wilkins (1-1) took the loss, giving up four runs and six hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Right fielder Daryl Ratliff and third baseman Jay Cranford had two hits each for the Buccaneers.
