Volunteers needed to transport blind citizens
The Blue Ridge Council of the Blind is seeking volunteers to start a new transportation project for the visually impaired.
The project will allow the visually handicapped to call a voice mail system and leave transportation needs by touch-tone telephone commands. A computer will then search through a volunteer pool and call all the volunteers who may be available to provide the need.
From that point, the chosen volunteer will call the rider to verify the arrangements.
Interested volunteers should call Woody Fisher of the Virginia Division for the Visually Handicapped at 857-7122.
