ALIFF, Marsha B., 38, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, at her home after a long struggle with AIDS. She is survived by her father and mother, James E. and Agnes Marie Bushnell, Roanoke; two daughters, Anne Marie Silbaugh and Thalia Elizabeth Aliff both of Roanoke; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Cindy Bushnell, Vinton, Joseph and Margaret Bushnell, Roanoke; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Roger Andrews, Vinton, Lorretta Duncan and Rodney Parker, Roanoke; beloved former husband, David Silbaugh, Roanoke; beloved special friends, Clifford, Alice (Nana) and Stafford Dawson and a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff from the Roanoke AIDS Project and her nurse and friends Chuck, Alan and Michael who gave her very devoted care during her long illness; also a very special thank you to Alice (Nana) Dawson who loved and cared for her for the past five years. Funeral services will be from Oakey's North Chapel 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 1994, with the Rev. Keith Merkey and the Rev. David A. Yingling officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Troutville, Va. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel.

BOLDEN, Antionette Arleen Cotton, 28, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 1994. Survivors include her husband, George Bolden; one son, Darryl Bolden; one daughter, Lakisha Bolden; her parents, Samuel and Betsy Cotton Sr.; three brothers, Samuel Cotton Jr., Timothy Cotton, Anthony Cotton; three sisters, Veronica Cotton Terry, Sonya Cotton, Renita Cotton; grandmothers, Estelle Finney, Ida Cotton all of Roanoke; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at Glorious Church of God in Christ, Rev. Blane Medley will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The procession will assembly at 803 Hunt Ave. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

DODSON, Ellen Joyce, 92, of Bassett, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church. Arrangements by McKee Funeral Services, Martinsville.

GILLIS, Eleanor Myers, 95, of Elm Park Estates, Roanoke, and formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994. She is survived by her son, Dr. Alonzo H. Myers, Roanoke; a daughter, Mrs. Walter F. (Eleanor) Cole, Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services will be held in Charlotte on Monday, May 2. GORDON, Earl Bennett Jr., 71, Wadesboro, N.C., formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, at Anson County Hospital, Wadesboro, N.C. He was the son of the late Earl Bennett Gordon Sr. and Hazel Walton Gordon. He was retired Vice President of Wansona Mfg. and Hornwood Inc. He was a veteran of US Army World War II, a member of First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro, N.C. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech. Surviving are his wife, Cecelia Gordon; one daughter, Dottie Gordon Burrows, Cary, N.C.; one grandson, Robert Gordon McGirt, Cary, N.C. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 1994 at Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. Gregory L. Adkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 1994 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. HANNABASS, Alma Hodges, 91, of Vinton, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994. Mrs. Hannabass was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Booth Hannabass in 1966; and a daughter, Ella Hannabass in November 1993. Surviving are a son, John Hunter Hannabass and wife, Betty of Roanoke; two daughters, Jean H. Brooks and husband, Otey of Boones Mill, Ann Marie Hendrick and husband, Paul of Covington; a sister, Doris Grimes of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, noon Saturday, April 30, 1994 with the Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

HOLDREN, David Otey, 88, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. Mr. Holdren was retired from City of Roanoke with 34 years of service and retired from Singer Furniture Company after 14 years. Surviving are his wife, Edith Hall Holdren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard O. and Ruth Holdren, Calvin D. and Donna Holdren, all of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Donnie Thomas of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Preston Naff officiating with interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. HOOSIER, Chelsie Lenae, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick and Becky Hoosier of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. Also surviving is a half brother, Cody Hoosier of Roanoke; grandparents, Frank and Mary Walker of Salem, Kenny Williams of Roanoke, Marshall and Janet Hoosier of Salem; great- grandparents, Thelma Wall of Narrows, Dorothy H. Beamer of Bastian; several aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park with Pastor David Huff officiating. KEY, John Howard Jr. (Johnny), 50, of Rt. 1 Galax, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith Key; daughters, Sheila A. Key and Sabrina L. Key, both of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Pam Key; his mother, Verta Key; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Dena Key; sisters and brother-in-law, Scarlet and Dale Rucker, Rita Key, Pamela Key, godchild, Melissa Gail Key,all of Galax; also several nieces and nephews. KINZIE, Mary Mariah, 90, of Newport, formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 28, 1994 at her home. Born in Newport she was a daughter of the late William Luther and Pearl Taylor Kinzie. She was a member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church at Pembroke. She is survived by two nephews, William A. Kinzie of Newport and William Abbott of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a special friend, Joel Richert of Roanoke. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, April 30, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the Clover Hollow Cemetery at Newport with the Rev. Dennis Gillespie officiating. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

McMAHAN, Lucy Bunch, 67, of Dublin, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 1994. Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

MOON, Donald J., 73, of Roanoke, died Sunday, April 24, 1994. Survived by one son, Chubby Alexander, Roanoke; one daughter, Charlotte Brown, Altavista; a host of relatives and friends. MOORE, Betty Black, 71, of Lexington, Va, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, at her home. Born August 16, 1922, in Augusta County, Va., the daughter of the late Garrett Gooch Black and Gertrude Hall Black. She taught at Old Highland Belle School in Rockbridge County and gave private piano instruction in her home. A graduate of Lees-McRae, she also attended Lynchburg College and Mary Washington College. An elder in New Monmouth P resbyterian Church, she also was organist, choir director, and Sunday School teacher for many years. Active in community services, she volunteered to assist cancer patients and was a member of Compassionate Friends. She was preceeded in death by a daughter, Betty Shea Moore and a son, Richard Lee Moore. She is survived by her husband, Harry E. Moore of Lexington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garrett H. and S. Joyce Moore, James Wm. and Jeri G. Moore; three grandchildren, Hillary L. Moore, Ashley B. Moore and James Wm. Moore, Jr., all of Lexington. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, April 30, 1994, at 11 am at the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, in Lexington, with the Rev. H. Wray Sherman officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to New Monmouth Presbyterian Church and/or Rockbridge Area Hospice. SHEPHERD, Ray Elwood, 62, of Moneta, died Thursday, April 28, 1994 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County February 19, 1932 a son of the late Albert Whitfield (Whit) Shepherd and Rosa Rachel Spradlin Shepherd. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Zelma Moles Shepherd; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven R. and Lisa Shepherd of Moneta; three brothers, Padgett S. Shepherd of Roanoke, Frances (Frank) Shepherd of Nitro, W.Va. and his twin brother, Roy E. Shepherd of Evington; a granddaughter, Abigail Shepherd. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in the Moles Family Cemetery Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Winters officiating. TATE, Edith M., 93, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Tate was born at Newport, Va. on April 27, 1901, a daughter of the late Charles Thomas Martin and Mila Lugar Martin. She was a retired school teacher in the Montgomery County, Va. school system and also in Dade County, Fla.; her husband, Charles V. Tate preceded her in death. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, C. Thomas and Frances S. Tate, Blacksburg; three grandchildren, James Tate, Blacksburg, Charlotte T. Bland and husband, Ken, Greensboro, N.C., C. Thomas Tate II and wife, Nancy, Binghamton, N. Y.; three great-grandchildren, Amy R. Bland, Tommy and Megan Tate. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 1994, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Herbert Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. TUCKER, Robert Lee, (Bob), 84, of Waugh Drive, Galax, died Thursday, April 29, 1994, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Tucker; daughters and sons-in-law, Katie Lee and Eugene Lundy, Galax, Lettie Mae and Lester Horton, Austinville; sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Eugene and Shirley Tucker, Pelham, Bobby Joe and Ada Lou Tucker, Winchester; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Garnetta and B.C. TURNER, Rawley F., 83, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 28, 1994, at his home. He was a graduate of Roanoke College, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member and former chairman of the board of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Roanoke Times & World-News where he was the classified ad manager. He was preceded in death by a son, Rawley Pratt Turner. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Pratt Turner of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Deirdre Turner of Richmond; one granddaughter, Grayson Turner of Richmond; twin brother, Charley Turner of Roanoke County; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, noon Saturday, with Dr. Jerry O. Campbell and Dr. John Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Greene Memorial United Methodist Church. WHITESIDE, Nora Mitchell, 94, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 28, 1994. She was an employee of the American Viscose Corp. from 1924 until 1958. Surviving are two stepsons and their wives, Harry W. and Becky M. Whiteside Jr., Bob D. and Carol L. Whiteside, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Mamie M. Ayers of South Boston, Ethel Mitchell of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Cassidy of Moneta, Faye Mitchell of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Saturday by Dr. Daniel E. Scott. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. WOODS, Ethel Frances, 83, of Salem, died Wednesday, April 27, 1994, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Edgar H. Woods Sr. and Barbara Woods, Bobby E. Woods and Carolyn Woods, all of Salem; one daughter, Edna I. Lagerholm, Bristol; two sisters, Bertha Reed, Blacksburg, Virgie Crawford, Cloverdale; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Berle Wright officiating. The family will receive friends at the John M.
