STATE WRESTLING STARTS TONIGHT AT PULASKI

USA Wrestling's Virginia State Championships for Cadet Division competitors will be held tonight and Saturday at Pulaski County High. More than 200 youths age 15-16 will wrestle in Greco-Roman and freestyle competition in the event governed by international and Olympic rules.

Greco-Roman competition opens tonight at 8. Freestyle starts Saturday at 10 a.m. The top qualifiers will advance to the USA Wrestling's Cadet Division national tournament July 4-9 in Columbia, Mo.

Randolph-Macon (6-2, 4-2) scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 13-7 Virginia Independent Conference baseball victory over Roanoke Valley Christian (1-7, 1-5) in Front Royal.

Scott Apjok was 3-for-3 for RVC, hitting two doubles.

In New Castle, Johnny Crawford was 3-for-4 with three RBI as Craig County (5-7, 4-3) used an eight-run third inning to beat Parry McCluer 14-6 in a Pioneer District baseball game.

Ben Boardwine picked up the win for the Rockets, pitching a four-hitter and striking out seven.

At Chatham, Joe Do scored three goals as Patrick Henry blanked Hargrave 7-0 in boys' lacrosse.

James River scored three goals in the second period as it shut out its only Pioneer District opponent 4-0 in a boys' soccer match in Buchanan.

Issac Minnis had one goal and two assists and Jason Hayslett had one goal and one assist for the Knights (1-7). The Highlanders are 0-10.

Shane Duddy scored two goals and Danny Rowland added one as host Roanoke Catholic (5-6, 1-1) beat Hargrave (3-1, 1-1) in a Virginia Independent Conference soccer game 3-1.

Albert Nedrow scored all four goals as Rockbridge County (3-5, 2-4) beat Northside 4-0 in a Blue Ridge District boys' soccer game in Lexington.

Sterling Turner scored twice as host Salem (7-3, 5-1) beat Lord Botetourt 4-0 in a Blue Ridge District soccer game.

Emily Cook and Mary Jennings scored as host North Cross (6-5-1) shut out Magna Vista 2-0 in a non-conference girls' soccer game.

At North Cross, the Raiders beat Stuart Hall 26-7 in a Blue Ridge Conference softball game as Lesley Dodson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Lisa Betz was 3-for-4 with three doubles and six RBI.
