But the road was not kind to Salem, which lost three of four games to the Prince William Cannons, including a 5-4 loss Thursday night in a Carolina League game.
The Bucs begin their biggest homestand to date today against the Lynchburg Red Sox at 7 p.m. The Bucs will play the next 10 days in a row, all at home.
The Cannons (12-9) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit. Mike Cameron singled home Carmine Cappuccio to make it 4-4, then pinch runner Geovany Miranda scored the winner off a wild pitch from Bucs reliever Marc Pisciotta. Miranda was running for Eddie Pearson, who was intentionally walked by Salem starter Sean Evans (0-2).
Jason Watkins (1-0) picked up the win for Prince William, allowing no hits in the final two innings.
For Salem, outfielder Danny Clyburn was 2-for-4 and scored two runs; outfielder Daryl Ratliff whacked a solo home run; and first baseman Raul Paez was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
