Barbara Capozzi, 50, a Main Street innkeeper and mother of Ben "Chip" Capozzi, a 19-year-old candidate for Town Council, says she wants to be a write-in candidate for mayor.
"What really cinched this thing for me was when Jack Via [at a candidates' forum Wednesday] said ... he wanted to 'keep on keeping on.'" she said Thursday. She has scheduled an announcement for 11 a.m. today at her Evergreen bed and breakfast inn.
She said she knew the mayor does not vote in council decisions unless a tie occurs among the six council members, but "Barbara Capozzi as mayor can do a lot of things that Barbara Capozzi as innkeeper can only think about."
Harold Linkous, who is running for re-election Tuesday, said "that's fine. That's her privilege."
Linkous, 67, said he has not faced competition in his two previous bids for mayor.
