Rob Glenn, the utility's vice president, said customers are due a refund because gas costs last winter turned out to the lower than forecast. "It's a normal occurrence to make such adjustments, based on the cost of gas."
The usual method of refunding is through the monthly purchased gas adjustment clause in future billings. "In this case, we wanted to do something special for customers who experienced high bills this winter," Glenn said. The State Corporation Commission has approved this method of refund.
The exact amount of a customer's refund will vary depending on the amount of gas a customer used between Oct. 1, 1993, and March 31, 1994. If the May bill is smaller than the refund, the balance will be carried over to successive bills until the full amount is paid.
