POPE IN HOSPITAL AFTER THIGH SURGERY

Pope John Paul II may remain in a hospital for up to three weeks following surgery Friday to replace a portion of his thigh bone fractured when he slipped in his bathroom.

The pontiff will likely need months of physical therapy before he can walk without a cane or crutches.

The pope, who will turn 74 on May 18, fractured the top of his right thighbone and dislocated the joint when he slipped in his bathroom late Thursday.
