The Roanoke station is airing 90-second Tour preview pieces daily at 8:35 a.m. and 3 p.m., and once the Tour begins later this week, the station will have race updates at 8:35 a.m. and 6:05 p.m. daily.
WROV also will be part of the Tour's radio network coordinated by SportsMax, a Richmond marketing and production company, and Tour organizer Medalist Sports. The station will begin its live race coverage with Stage 5, the Roanoke Valley time trial, from 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 9.
That will be followed by almost seven hours of coverage May 10, when Stage 6 travels 138 miles from Lynchburg, through Bedford, Botetourt, Craig and Montgomery counties, to Blacksburg. Air time is 10:45 a.m. WROV also will air the start of Stage 7 in Wytheville on May 11.
WROV's Jeff Dickerson will call the cycling, with Chris Gutkowski, a 1985 national track cycling champion, and Dave Byrd of SportsMax handling the color. For the Roanoke stage, WROV's Steve Curtiss will work from Mount Chestnut.
Dickerson said no rights fees are involved in the Medalist Sports-WROV agreement. Medalist received eight 30-second advertising spots to sell each hour during the broadcast, with WROV selling six 30s.
