USAIR JET'S LANDING GEAR FAILS, NO INJURIES

A USAir jet with 89 passengers aboard landed safely Sunday at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport without its nose gear down.

The F-100 plane, which can hold 100 passengers, landed on its back wheels until the last third of the runway, when it slid on the nose, USAir spokesman John Bronson said. There were sparks but no fire and no injuries, Bronson said. - Associated Press
