Georgia Tech shot 296 on Sunday to finish with an 859 total and a 10-shot victory over Augusta. Virginia Tech shot 290 to overtake Virginia, which finished fourth at Birdwood Golf Course.
Simon Cooke of Virginia shot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to win medalist honors with an 8-under-par 208, two shots ahead of Stewart Cink of Georgia Tech and Richard Johnson of Augusta.
Virginia Tech's Brian Sharp shot 71 to finish fourth with a 211 total. Sean Farrell of the Hokies shot the day's low round of 69 and finished sixth with a 216 total. Other scores for Tech, the Metro Conference champion, were David Havens (75) at 225 and Curtis Deal (75) at 227.
UVa's other scorers were Tripp Shreves (73) at 221, Dan Ladd (77) at 226 and Dean Smith (81) at 234.
In Hot Springs, Virginia golfers used four 3-0 sweeps in head-to-head competition to defeat a team from West Virginia 41 1/2-18 1/2 in the weekend tournament for "Ye Ole Feudin' Stick," a replica of one of Sam Snead's earliest woods.
Virginia's Keith Decker, David Partridge, Charles Green and Tom McKnight each had 3-0 victories on the Homestead's 6,566-yard, par-70 Cascades course. Jim Alexander, the 1993 Virginia Seniors champion, defeated Richard Chenoweth 2 1/2 to 1/2.
