North Cross School will hold a silent auction on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the school in Southwest Roanoke County. The event, a fund-raiser, will feature Mexican food, mariachi music and more than 100 items for auction. Oriental rugs and art from more than 50 area artists will be on sale, too.

'5 Guys Named Moe'
Mill Mountain Theatre will open ``Five Guys Named Moe'' on Friday on the Main Stage at Roanoke's Center in the Square.
This Tony-nominated Cameron MacIntosh production celebrates the music of 1940s jazz star Louis Jordan. The storyline revolves around The Five Moes, who jump out of a jukebox to teach a lovelorn young man a few lessons about romance and women.
The play runs through May 29. An interpreted performance for the hearing impaired will be performed on May 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for $15-$20 at the box office, 342-5740.
Waste collection
The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, the Clean Valley Council and Salem are sponsoring Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center stadium parking lot. The collection day is free and open to area households.

Insurance program
"Insight on Insurance" for seniors will be offered during a free seminar and personal counseling session on Medicare supplemental and long-term care coverage. The approximately hour-long seminar will be held in the former Roanoke County Administration Building, 3738 Brambleton Ave. S.W., Roanoke at 10:30 a.m. on May 25. Volunteer insurance counselors will then be available from 11:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to help people with their health insurance problems. The program is sponsored by the LOA Area Agency on Aging and the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance. Seating is limited. To reserve a space, call 345-0452 before May 20.
