MAROONS DOMINATE ODAC TEAM

The Roanoke men's lacrosse team dominated post-season honors in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Monday.

The Maroons placed six players on the All-ODAC first team: attackmen Erik Daly and Brett Smith, midfielders J.J. Blatt and James Kammerman, defenseman Brian Doyle and goalie Craig Fleming.

Mike Marchetti, an attackman for Lynchburg, was the ODAC's Player of the Year, and Washington and Lee's Mike Stagnitta earned coach of the year honors.

Rounding out the first team were attackman Ed Curry of Hampden-Sydney, midfielders Colin Higgins of W&L and Tom McGurty of Virginia Wesleyan, and defensemen Chad Brown of Lynchburg, Dave Frank of Virginia Wesleyan and Shaun McKenzie of W&L.

In other college sports:

Virginia Tech wrestler Josh Feldman was voted the Hokies' most valuable wrestler by his teammates for the 1993-94 season.

Feldman, who placed seventh in the heavyweight division in the 1994 NCAA Tournament, became the first Hokies wrestler to win All-American honors since Brandon Glover finished third at 130 pounds in 1959. The Dunwoody, Ga., native notched a 28-7 season and scored 104.25 points for Tech, including his third straight Colonial Athletic Association title. He finished third on the all-time Hokies win list with a career record of 85-23-1.

Marc Brade, a redshirt freshman from Manassas, was voted rookie of the year after a 14-7 overall record and a 7-2 mark in dual meets at 167 pounds. He placed third in the CAA meet.

Tom Clater, also a redshirt freshman from Manassas, was named most improved wrestler after compiling a 12-11 overall record at 134 pounds, including a 6-4 mark in dual meets.

Matt Burlingame of Russell, Pa., and David Wimmer of Grundy, have been named captains for the 1994-95 season.

Graig Fantuzzi, an outfielder for Washington and Lee, was named to the first team of the All-ODAC baseball team.

Virginia Wesleyan outfielder Gary Sasser was the player of the year. The sophomore hit .473 with 33 RBI. The Marlins' Nick Boothe was named coach of the year.
