Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., Louisville, Ky.-based health care services provider and parent of Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $45 million, compared with $221 million a year earlier.
Operating income was $603 million, before nonrecurring items of $159 million related to merger of the two companies, compared with $557 million in the 1993 quarter. Earnings per share, excluding the nonrecurring items, was 70 cents compared with year-earlier 61 cents. Net revenues for the quarter totaled $2.78 billion, up 5 percent from year-earlier $2.65 billion.
Premier Bankshares
Premier Bankshares Corp. of Tazewell on Monday reported income of $2.2 million, or 50 cents a share for the three months that ended March 31, compared with $2.3 million, or 52 cents a share for the first quarter of 1993. Premier's assets grew over the year by 15.39 percent from $498 million to $574.7 million.
Hardee's Food Systems
Hardee's Food Systems Inc., Rocky Mount, N.C., operator and franchiser of 4,000 Hardee's and Roy Rogers restaurants and a unit of Imasco Ltd. of Montreal, reported first-quarter operating earnings of $1.4 million, up 4.6 percent over $1.3 million a year earlier.
Systemwide sales were $1.08 billion, down 1.7 percent from $1.1 billion for the same period a year ago. Company revenues were $430.5 million against $449.9 million, a 4.3 percent decrease.
Tyson Foods
Tyson Foods Inc., Springdale, Ark., food processor attempting a hostile takeover of Rockingham County-based WLR Foods Inc., reported net income of $43.1 million, or 29 cents per share, in its second quarter, down 6 percent from $46.1 million, or 31 cents per share, a year earlier.
Sales in the quarter were $1.26 billion, up 7.8 percent over $1.17 billion a year earlier.
