YOKOHAMA CHIEF TO VISIT SALEM

Yokohama Tire Corp. President Eika Yamagata will visit the company's Salem manufacturing plant today to accept a grant from Virginia Gov. George Allen and Salem Mayor Jim Taliaferro to help pay for the company's $50 million expansion.

Fullerton, Calif.-based Yokohama in 1989 began a $120 million phased enlargement of the tire factory, expected to add about 300 jobs to the 800-person work force.

The latest project, announced last November, is expected to add about 100 jobs, paying an average of $17.50 an hour, and 300,000 square feet of production area.

The state grant of $130,000 from the Governor's Opportunity Fund, is intended to help pay for site development costs.

The presentation is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Yokohama factory, 1500 Indiana Ave.
