4 PEOPLE ARE CHARGED IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS

Roanoke County police have charged four people in the drive-by shooting of three homes on Wildwood Road in February.

Shawn P. Long, 19, of Bedford; Anthony H. Fesperman II, 19, of the 400 block of Mount Vernon Avenue, Salem; and two 16-year-olds each were charged with three felony counts of discharging firearms or missiles within or at occupied buildings.

Roanoke County Commonwealth's Attorney Skip Burkart is petitioning to transfer the juveniles' cases to Circuit Court, because he said the circumstances of the incident were "very aggravated."

Early on Feb. 10, the four teens took a joy ride down Wildwood Road, randomly shooting a .30-caliber rifle out of the car window, according to police. Bullets were recovered from the interior walls of three homes, police said. No one was injured.

Police said they broke the case in mid-April after someone identified those involved in the incident.

Fesperman and Long are out on bail. The names of the juveniles were not released; one lives in Bedford County and the other in Salem.

Preliminary hearings for each defendant are set for this week.
