Research and outreach programs connected to the pulp and paper industry also will be funded.
In a statement, Tech President Paul Torgersen said the donor designated half of the gift for university priorities. By doing so, "the donor has provided us with the flexible means to assist students, attract and retain faculty, and strengthen the operation of the university and its programs," he said.
College dean Gregory N. Brown also pointed out that the gift will help raise the profile of the college, which split from the university's College of Agriculture in recent years.
The donation will be paid to the college in annual installments over the next four years.
