\ THE REV. ROLEN C. BAILEY, a former director of ministries for Southern Baptist congregations in the Roanoke Valley Association, and his wife, Frances, are moving to Richmond. Bailey, 66, served in the executive director's position from 1974 to his retirement in 1989. From 1960 to 1974 he was pastor of Cave Spring Baptist Church. The congregation there honored him Sunday and conferred on him the title of pastor emeritus. Since his retirement, Bailey has served Cave Spring and Riverdale churches as interim pastor.

THE REV. T. EUGENE CARTER, who will retire in June as superintendent of the Roanoke District of the United Methodist Church, will be honored May 22 at a reception from 3 to 4 p.m. at First United Methodist in downtown Salem. Carter, who will remain in the Roanoke area, is completing 40 years in the ordained ministry with the last five in the administrative job in Roanoke.
\ THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY, the successful invasion of France which helped end World War II, will be marked June 5 with a ceremony in Lee Plaza in Roanoke starting at 2 p.m.
A service commemorating those who served and died in the initial landings will be held at nearby Greene Memorial United Methodist Church after the observance.
On June 6, at noon, many churches are expected to ring their bells to mark the actual invasion day. Some also will honor World War II veterans on June 5.
\ CHOIRS from Our Lady of Nazareth, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Gerard's Catholic parishes will join for Musicfest Friday at 7:30 p.m. The program will be held at Nazareth church, 2500 Electric Road S.W.
\ THE REV. DENISE ROTIVAL HUFFMAN, a Hollins College graduate and United Methodist minister, has developed "The Story of the Spirit," a workshop designed individually for church and service groups to enhance relationship to God.

\ ROBIN MARTIN HENRICKSON, Christian education director at College Lutheran Church in Salem for the past six years, will become associate pastor of Christ Lutheran Church on June 1. She will succeed the Rev. Linda Mitchell, who left in October for a chaplaincy post in Columbia, S.C.
Henrickson, who will be ordained to the new position later, is the wife of the Rev. Paul Henrickson, chaplain of Roanoke College. She is a graduate of Wittenberg University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Pa. A resident of Salem for 12 years, she has been active, especially in youth leadership, on the Virginia Synod level.
\ GLEN PEARCE has been named minister of education at Cave Spring Baptist Church. Beginning July 15, he will become the church's fourth professional staff member joining the senior pastor and specialists in music and youth leadership.
Pearce, who will graduate later this spring from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is married to Jerrye Pearce and is the father of two. Pearce, 38, had a sales and public service career in his native Texas before entering the professional ministry.
\ THE RALEIGH COURT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH governing board has recommended unanimous approval of a plan to add and renovate the building at 1837 Grandin Road. The proposed $1.8 million project, if approved by the membership, will include a larger fellowship hall, six additional classrooms, an upgraded mechanical system, a gathering area for fellowship, larger music area, kitchen and office spaces and full accessibility for the handicapped, including an elevator.
The Rev. Dr. Tupper Garden, pastor, said growth of the church makes the improvements necessary.
\ A NEW ORGAN, given in memory of Charles and Lessie Rowe, will be dedicated Sunday at the 11:30 a.m. liturgy at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2505 Electric Road S.W. James Beverley Keeling, who played the organ for the parish from 1970 to 1974, will be the guest organist. Sunday's events include a recital starting at 10:45 a.m. with Christine Payne and Harry Withers as guest soloists.
\ COMMON GROUND, a praise song interdenominational group, has scheduled its final seasonal meeting May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Covenant Church, 1857 Grandin Road S.W.
\ WEST END UNITED METHODIST CHURCH will observe homecoming May 15 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Patrick of Lexington as speaker.
The church also distributed nearly 1,400 pounds of clothing to 242 people as part of its continuing outreach to inner city Roanokers this past winter.
The church will again be the site of Summer Enrichment, a monthlong free day camp where its members work with several other congregations.
\ SACRED MUSIC by guest artists Angela Case and Monte Maxwell will be performed May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, South Jefferson at 24th Street. Case is a former Roanoker who has performed opera in several cities. Maxwell has taught music at several colleges.
\ THE HOST-HOSTESS GUILD of Jerusalem Baptist Church will have its annual Pre-Mother's Day dinner Saturday at 5 p.m. The meal costs $4.50. The church is at 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W.
\ COLONIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 3550 Poplar Drive S.W. is holding an open prayer vigil until 7 p.m. today as part of National Day of Prayer. A brief worship experience will be held after the vigil.
\ WAVERLY PLACE BAPTIST CHURCH, 1407 Kenwood Blvd. S.E., will sponsor a Christian weight loss program beginning May 14. The 13-week class employs principles used by First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, with a notebook and Bible study to change behavior patterns. Cost is $60 for the first series of classes.
