May 28 benefit to raise funds for cancer patient
The Dana Garman Benefit, a fund-raiser for a 33-year-old cancer patient, will be held May 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Catawba Community Center.
A rummage sale, auction, raffle drawing, arts and crafts and bake sale, live music and children's activities will be featured. Items for sale and volunteers are needed for the day of the benefit.
Monetary donations may also be mailed to the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Craig County, P.O. Box 399, New Castle, VA 24127.
Garman, mother of three small children, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, has undergone surgery and chemotherapy and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Insurance has denied coverage of the procedure which costs $100,000 to $150,000.

Roanoke Valley women win aerobic contest
"Jump-n-Fit," a Roanoke Valley aerobic team, recently won the 1994 YMCA Aerobic Championship in Huntington, W.V.
Team members are Teresa Lively and Marty Falgiano, both aerobic instructors at Salem Fitness Center, and Regina Ierardi, aerobics instructor at New Fitness in Roanoke. Jump-N-Fit's dance routine was choreographed by Lynn Stone of the Ardell Stone School of Dance. In addition to the team trophy, winners received fitness apparel and a white water rafting trip in West Virginia.
