3 PROPERTY ASSESSMENT HEARINGS SET IN CRAIG

The Craig County Board of Equalization will meet in May and June to consider appeals of property assessments set in this year's general reassessment of real estate.

The hearings will be May 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. and on June 1 from 7 to 10 p.m.

All the meetings will be in the conference room of the county office building in New Castle.

The general reassessment has increased the total value of property in the county by about 30 percent, said County Administrator Richard Flora.

Board of Supervisor Chairman Zane Jones has predicted that this will lead to a reduction in the tax rate but that individual tax bills may not change much because of the higher assessments.
