The Rotary Club of Roanoke recently honored several Roanokers at its' 80th anniversary dinner.
The recipients were given Paul Harris Fellowship awards for community leadership, and $1,000 was donated to the Rotary Foundation in their names. Harris founded the Rotary in 1905. Those honored were: Bev Fitzpatrick of New Century Council; Victoria Bond of the Roanoke Symphony; Rupert Cutler of Explore Park; Maj. Dan Delaney of the Salvation Army; Ted Carroll of the Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Center; Judge Philip Trompeter, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court; and Corrine Gott of the Roanoke Social Services Department.
MDA raises record amount with `Lock up'
The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southwest and Central Virginia raised a record $18,500 during its recent "lock up."
Sixty-five Roanoke business people were incarcerated in the MDA Berglund Jail until business associates bailed them out. All bail money was donated to the MDA.
The top fund-raiser was Sonny Arrington of Auto Salvage and Sales. The event was sponsored by Berglund Chevrolet Geo Jeep Eagle, Cellular One of the Roanoke Valley and K92-FM.
