"No one from Rock 105 is doing that," said Rock 105 station manager Ralph Stewart. "It's just a practical joke."
Stewart said a man has been calling pay telephones in the area and telling those who answer that they've won $105. "We wish we could give away $105," he lamented Wednesday.
Three people have been sucked in by the jokers already, including one Virginia Tech student who rode the bus all the way to Rock 105's studios off N. Franklin Street only to learn she'd been duped.
"We gave her some movie tickets and some other stuff and took her home," Stewart said.
Stewart said one of the calls was to a pay telephone in McBryde Hall on the Tech campus. The station has reported the incident to Virginia Tech Police.
