Summer day camps offered

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department is offering several summer day camps for area residents. Some camps are eight hours per day, and others are four hours. There are 31 camps sessions for youth 4-17 such as hiking, skating, computing, canoeing, tumbling, swimming, fishing, caving and climbing.

Registration for the camps begins on May 18 at 8 a.m. at the Recreation Center on Patrick Henry Drive. For details on camps, costs and summer activities, call 961-1135.

Author will sign books

CHRISTIANSBURG - Charles Edwin Price will be signing copies of his book "The Mystery of Ghostly Vera and Other Haunting Tales of Southwest Virginia" on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Waldenbooks in the New River Valley Mall. Price has written other Appalachian tale books including "Demon in the Woods" and "The Day They Hung the Elephant."

Premiere of musical marked|

BLACKSBURG - A celebration of the world premiere of the original musical "Road to Paradise" will be presented by Playmakers and Company on May 7, 2-4 p.m. in front of the Playmakers' Playhouse in the University Mall. The Sundancers will perform a country western dance, a magician will be doing illusions, and the cast of "Road to Paradise" will sing songs from the production. Popcorn will be sold for a nickel a bag.

Based on the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby road shows, "Road to Paradise" will run through May 22. Call 382-0154 for show times.

Raffle for Elliston house

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg Jaycees and Century 21 Old Virginia, Ltd. are raffling off a house at 9000 Roanoke Road in Elliston. Raffle tickets are being sold for $100 each, and 2,200 must be sold for the drawing to take place. Money will be refunded in full if enough tickets are not sold.

The share of the proceeds going to the Jaycees will help support several community projects. To buy a ticket, call Mike Fox at 382-2903, Tim Johnson at 382-0242 or Ron Graham at 382-7500.
