CHRISTIANSBURG - The New River Valley Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees will meet on May 12 at Stone's Cafeteria on Roanoke Road. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 12:15 p.m.
Robert Stuart, Virginia Tech professor emeritus, will discuss economic development versus individual interests and how conflict resolution can be used to reconcile social needs and individual desires.

Needlework exhibit May 14
CHRISTIANSBURG - A needlework exhibit sponsored by the Christiansburg Senior Center, Recreation Department and Senior Athletes of Montgomery County will be held May 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
A People Choice Award will be given for each category.
Public dinner in Newbern
NEWBERN - A public dinner will be held 5-8 p.m. at the Newbern Community Club Building on May 14. The cost is by donation, and all proceeds will go to the Newbern Volunteer Fire Department.
Area residents served the fire department are encouraged to take part by preparing food items for the dinner. Arrangements can be made for food to be picked up from your home for the meal. Call 674-5853 for more information.
