Contel Cellular Inc. of Atlanta, operator of cellular telephone service in Western Virginia, reported a net loss of $8.6 million, or 9 cents per share, for the quarter ended March 31. The loss includes after-tax gains on sales of properties of $15.5 million. Without the gain, the net loss was $33.5 million, or 34 cents per share. Revenues increased 53 percent to $119.2 million.
Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc.
Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc., Rocky Mount, reported sales of $1.4 million for the first quarter, down from $1.5 million for the year-ago period. Net loss was $21,407, or 3 cents per share, compared with 1993 net income, before an adjustment, of $31,716, or 5 cents per share.
Crown American Realty
Crown American Realty Trust, a Johnstown, Pa., real estate investment trust operating New River Valley Mall, reported revenues of $28.8 million for the first quarter and net income of $2.1 million, or 8 cents per share. The company completed its initial public offering in August 1993, so comparable figures for last year were not reported.
Buffets Inc.
Buffets Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn., parent of Old Country Buffet restaurants, reported net earnings up 32 percent to $6 million in the quarter ended April 20. Earnings per share increased 27 percent to 19 cents from 15 cents a year ago, and sales rose 27 percent to $112.5 million.
