FIRE THAT KILLED 3-YEAR-OLD RULED ACCIDENT

Tuesday's fire that killed a 3-year-old Roanoke boy began accidentally, said Roanoke fire investigators who completed their probe Thursday.

Javion Tabor was killed by a fire that engulfed his home at 607 Madison Ave. N.W. at 12:22 p.m. The boy's mother, Christine Tabor, carried her 8-month-old daughter to safety. She told authorities that she tried to lead Javion out, but for unknown reasons, the boy remained in the house. Firefighters found his body underneath a bed in the living room, where the fire started.

It appeared that Javion started the fire when he was playing with a lighter and watching television, said Assistant Fire Marshal Jerry Percell. Cigarettes and other smoking materials were found in a nearby room.
