Criminal justice training programs

RADFORD - The Radford University criminal justice department and Virginia department of criminal justice services will offer a new training program for area criminal justice personnel May 15-20 and May 22-27 at Radford University.

The week-long workshop is designed for supervisory and middle management professionals who want to explore current issues and trends in criminal justice.

Successful participants will receive three undergraduate credits or one graduate credit.

Registration for both sessions will be May 15 at 4 p.m. Classes for the first session will begin and 6 p.m. and continue through May 20.

Fair pageant May 14

DUBLIN - The New River Valley Fair pageant will be held May 14, 7:30 p.m., in the Wysor Building at the New River Valley Fairgrounds off Virginia 100.

Contestants will be judged on beauty, poise and personality. The winner will reign over the New River Valley Fair and will represent the New River Valley in January at the Virginia Fair Association pageant in Williamsburg.

Letter carriers in food drive

CHRISTIANSBURG - Letter carriers in Southwestern Virginia will participate in a national food drive May 14, to help stock area food banks. Postal patrons may leave non-perishable food items by their mailboxes for pickup.

Hospices convention next week

ROANOKE - The Virginia Association for Hospices annual convention will be held Thursday through May 14 at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel. The convention starts at midday Thursday and concludes with a luncheon Saturday.

Festival on for June 11-12

NARROWS - The Taste of the Arts Festival will be held by the Mill Pond June 11, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., and June 12 from noon until 6 p.m., with music, gourmet foods and wines and works by local artists.

Home Tour May 15

RADFORD - The 1994 Radford Home Tour will be held May 15, 2-6 p.m. sponsored by the Woman's Club of Radford.

Six homes and Grace Episcopal Church are on the tour. Refreshments will be available. Tickets are $3 for a single house or $10 for the entire tour.
