HOME RUNS SEND KNIGHTS PAST PH

Josh Salmon went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI as Cave Spring defeated visiting Patrick Henry 14-8 in a Roanoke Valley District baseball game.

The Knights scored six runs in the first inning en route to victory. Kevin Davis had a home run and three RBI and teammate Doug Popik went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Richard Mason smashed a grand slam in the second inning to lead the Patriots. Jeremy Bailey and Mike McMahon each had two hits for PH.

At Martinsville, the Kirby sisters teamed to give Martinsville a 5-0 non-district girls' soccer victory over Salem on Friday night. Junior Beth Kirby scored three goals, and senior Leighton Kirby added two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Tosha Harris had two saves for Martinsville (7-2). Salem is 3-6-1.
