FERRUM MAN MISSING AFTER BOAT ACCIDENT

A Ferrum man was missing late Saturday after a boating accident on the Botetourt County section of the James River.

James Boinett was fishing in two boats with his three sons near Glen Wilton on Saturday afternoon when his boat capsized.

State Game Warden Tom Wine said the two sons in the other boat managed to pull the brother who had fallen in from the water. They paddled to shore, checked the riverbanks, then went to a residence to call police.

Wine, who is in charge of the search, said they stopped looking late Saturday for safety reasons. "With the water levels as high as they are, the swift water is not safe."

He said they plan to resume the search at 8 a.m. today, with police officers and rescue squad members from Troutville, Clifton Forge and other areas.

Search teams will check riverbanks while divers determine the best strategy for combating the fast current.

Wine said the search will continue indefinitely, depending on weather conditions and available help.
