The Blacksburg Newcomers Club has about 100 members who meet once a month during the academic year for socializing, special programs and interest groups. Members may remain in the club for three years.
"Every year we debate the three-year limit," said this year's president, Terri Lynn Howard, "and every year it is decided to retain it so the club remains a newcomers group."
Programs include artist talks, gardening and history presentations, a spring fashion show and luncheon, and information about volunteer opportunities and local cultural exhibits. There are about 20 interest groups with daytime activities such as crafts, quilting and antiques and evening groups centered around great books, bridge and gourmet dining.
Dues are $12 per year, and a newsletter is mailed each month with program information and news about events and activities.
Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, 9:30 a.m., at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Prices Fork and Toms Creek roads. Child care is available. Call 552-9686 for more information.
Valleywide Newcomers Club, based in Radford, is open to all new residents of Dublin, Radford, Pulaski, Christiansburg and Fairlawn, as well as other residents interested in meeting new people.
