ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Roanoke and Roanoke County licensed 192 new businesses in April, down from 200 in March and 213 a year ago. Of those, 108 were in the city and 84 were in the county.

The county commissioner of revenue's office said the number of business licenses are on the rise. The county had estimated that the tax for the year would rise $200,000; it rose $480,000.
