ROANOKE CAB DRIVER STABBED

A 65-year-old driver with Yellow Cab Company was stabbed repeatedly by one of his fares early Monday, Roanoke police said.

Roy G. Correll was admitted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A hospital nursing supervisor said no information would be released on his condition.

About 6:20 a.m., Correll was dispatched to the 1900 block of Wayne Street Northeast to pick up a man that police described as an 18- or 19-year-old, wearing a Charlotte Hornets jacket and black jeans. The man asked to be driven to Loudon Avenue Northwest. Correll told him that the address did not exist. The man then asked Correll to change $50. Correll said he did not have that amount of money.

The man then reached across the seat and placed his arm around Correll's neck, pulling him to the back seat, where he stabbed Correll numerous times in the chest and side.

The suspect took Correll's wallet, which contained $20, police said. No arrests have been made.
