HISTORIC PLANE TO FLY INTO ROANOKE

A Lockheed Constellation aircraft, the kind of plane that became the first pressurized aircraft in commercial use, will fly into Roanoke Regional Airport on Wednesday morning, when it will be available for public tours.

Constellations originally were part of the Air Force's Military Air Transport Service, which among other things brought supplies to civilians during the Berlin Airlift in 1949.

People may tour the plane Wednesday and Thursday at Piedmont Aviation Services, adjacent to the old airport terminal, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $3 for adults, $1 for children.
